His professional journey began in education, where he served as a high school science teacher and sports coach, but he swiftly transitioned to the hospitality sector. Carney dedicated 30 years as an owner-operator of various dining establishments, including the renowned Mister Mike’s Restaurant and The Snack Shack, where his hands-on approach in daily operations significantly contributed to their success.
Carney's expertise further expanded during his tenure at Governor's Restaurants, where he excelled in corporate operations for 20 years, elevating leadership and operational efficiencies across six locations. As Director of Corporate Operations, he was instrumental in developing robust training programs for leadership, management, and staff, thereby setting new standards in service quality. His commitment to enhancing the "guest experience" through improved cultural standards and operational systems has left a lasting impact on the industry.
In academia, Carney made significant contributions as the Founding Director and Instructor of the Hospitality Management program at Husson College, Bangor, ME, underlining his dedication to fostering the next generation of industry leaders. His role as an instructor for the National Restaurant Association's Serv-Safe sanitation program underscored his commitment to safety and quality in hospitality.
Carney's leadership extended to his involvement in the restaurant associations at both state and national levels. He held various influential positions, including serving on the Board of Directors of the National Restaurant Association and as President of the Maine Restaurant Association, where his vision and efforts were pivotal in shaping industry standards and practices.

Jonathan's journey into leadership and business began at the young age of 15, when he and his sister Shana took the reins of their father's business, The Snack Shack. Over three years, they successfully managed and operated this $500,000 seasonal roadside restaurant specializing in ice cream. Together, they oversaw financial management, onboarded and led a team of 20 employees, and participated in daily operations, laying the foundation for Jonathan's future success in executive leadership and business strategy.

As a respected executive in the Premium Cigar Industry, Jonathan achieved consistent year-over-year revenue growth and significant market expansion for over 15 years. His leadership has been pivotal in developing and maintaining industry-leading sales and service teams, securing key accounts and prominent placements in premium retail locations, spearheading innovative social marketing campaigns, and leading successful product launches, including the renowned Andalusian Bull, the top-rated cigar in the world in 2016.

Jonathan also served as a Service & Sales Manager at Darden Restaurants Inc., where he demonstrated his leadership prowess by managing large teams, opening new restaurant locations, and achieving high levels of guest satisfaction. His tenure included overseeing two new restaurant openings, managing a team of 170 members, and handling a sales volume of $6 million annually.

In addition, Jonathan honed his skills in hospitality and guest service at Walt Disney World, contributing to the exceptional experiences for which Disney is known. His extensive background in leadership and diverse industry experience underscores his commitment to excellence and his ability to inspire and lead teams to success.

Jonathan has been an influential figure in the Tobacconist Association of America, serving on the Board of Directors as an Associate Board Member from 2019 to 2023. His contributions include expanding the association's reach, engaging in advocacy efforts, and championing industry innovation. Additionally, he was an active member of the New York State Tobacconist Association Advisory Board from 2011 to 2013.
